Options for saving fabric and hair from stuck slime

Children love to play with the viscous mass of bright colors, which takes any shape and does not stick to their palms. And poor parents then rack their brains for a long time about how to remove slime from clothes, upholstered furniture or carpet. Left unattended for several hours, the toy spreads into a sticky spot and becomes firmly embedded in the fibers of the fabric.

How to save clothes?

It is easier to wash slime from clothes than from carpet, upholstery or rugs. The earlier you detect the stain, the higher the chances of success.

  • Step 1. Try to remove as much viscous slurry as possible mechanically

If the fabric is durable (linen, cotton), use a teaspoon, nail file or knife. Work from the edges of the stain to the center so as not to smear the slime. Slime stuck to delicate clothing? Then chewing gum or a piece of plasticine will help to gently remove the toy.

  • Step 2. Treat remaining stains with solvent

Now you need to choose a substance that will dissolve the dry or viscous residues of the slime, which means that it will be easier to wash the clothes later. Both chemical stain removers and home remedies will work. The table below shows the best options.

How much product should I apply to the slime stain? Depends on the area of contamination. You want the slime to be completely wet.

  • Step 3. Wipe the surface with a dry cloth (sponge)

When the slime softens, remove any remaining residue by hand. You will have to spend 5-10 minutes on this.

But there is one more problem. The toy contains chemical dyes, which cause colored stains to remain on clothes. The next step will help you get rid of them.

  • Step 4. Wash the item as usual

This can be done either manually or in a washing machine. It is recommended to add a couple of drops of ammonia to the water (except for washing delicate fabrics).

Boiling water

Getting rid of slime using temperature

You can remove a slime stain at home without resorting to the use of chemicals and folk remedies. There are two opposing methods.

  • Boiling water

This option is only suitable for cotton or linen clothing. Try scrubbing off the pieces of the toy by hand, then soak the item in boiling water for 5-10 minutes. When the water becomes warm, wash the stain on the clothing with laundry soap or put the item in the washing machine.

  • Freezing

Place the T-shirt or blouse in the freezer for an hour. Then the dirty mark can be easily scraped off with a sharp object.

Carpet cleaning

How to clean a carpet, upholstered furniture, rug?

Are you trying to unstick a bright toy from a fleecy surface, but it comes off only with the material? You cannot immerse a floor covering, a sofa or a wool blanket in a bowl of boiling water and put it in the washing machine. And ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, kerosene and especially acetone can ruin the material. What to do?

We recommend that you purchase special products for cleaning carpets and textiles at a household chemicals store.

The following products have positive reviews:

  • Nordland active foam;
  • Help spray;
  • Udalix Ultra powder;
  • Antipyatin stain remover soap;
  • Vanish Oxi Action shampoo.

First, peel off as much of the slime as you can from the surface of the carpet, blanket, or furniture. Then apply the chemical and leave until the stain has dissolved (usually 30 minutes). Wipe the area first with a damp cloth and then with a dry cloth.

There is another option for saving the carpet: attach a strong plastic bag with ice cubes to the slime. The toy will harden in 5-10 minutes. Then try to carefully scrape it off with a knife or nail file.

A piece of slime in your hair

How to maintain your hairstyle?

Young owners of long and thick hair often encounter a situation where slime sticks to their hair. Moms offer to go to the hairdresser and get a haircut, but the little princesses resist (and, it turns out, for good reason, because the toy can be quickly and easily peeled off).

It is enough to take any vegetable oil (preferably olive, as it softens the hair). Baby cream, Vaseline, and styling mousse are also suitable. Apply the product to your curls and leave for 20-30 minutes.The slime will dissolve. Remove any remaining mucus with a dry sponge. At the end, it is recommended to wash the child’s hair.

There is also often advice on the Internet for removing slime stains from hair by freezing. We do not recommend that you do this. Negative temperatures will make curls brittle. And when you scrub off the dry residue of the slime with a knife, you will completely destroy the hair structure.

Slime stuck to the carpet

When are dry cleaning services required?

Unfortunately, old slime stains (which are more than a week old) cannot be completely removed at home. The adhesive particles have already penetrated deep into the fabric. You will have to take the product to the dry cleaner, especially if we are talking about a carpet or rug.

Also, do not take risks trying to remove slime from expensive wardrobe items or particularly delicate fabrics (silk, chiffon, viscose). It is better to entrust the rescue of such things to professionals.

Thus, a fresh stain from slime can be easily removed using chemical and folk remedies. This will take no more than 2 hours, including the final wash. Choose a method depending on the type of fabric. Please note that household chemicals, although more expensive, cope with dirt better and are suitable for many materials.
