Diseases in your home: how to prevent mold?

The fungus prefers to settle in places where moisture is constantly present. Therefore, the main thing that will help prevent mold is to keep it clean and dry. Preventive measures include insulating the house and ensuring good ventilation. To avoid the proliferation of fungal spores, walls and other surfaces are treated with special fungicidal compounds. Let's look at all the means to prevent mold.

Airing the room

Basic preventive measures

Mold in the home is a common problem. Every 5th resident of Russia is familiar first-hand with spots of black, green or orange. If they are not eliminated in a timely manner, an unpleasant odor will appear that will permeate the room and everything in it.

Most often, fungus starts in the bathroom, but with high humidity levels it can appear in other rooms. Naturally, it is easier to avoid its appearance than to spend a long time and tediously removing mold stains.

Prevention of mold:

    1. Maintain air humidity at 35%. Use a hygrometer to track your readings.
    2. Keep doors in your home open for better ventilation and even distribution of humidity.
    3. Ventilate your home daily. But in winter, make sure that precious heat does not escape through the window to the street.
    4. Sunlight kills bacteria and fungi, so keep all curtains open during the day.
    5. Be careful about cleanliness.Clean surfaces from condensation, wipe off soap residue, and use antibacterial and antifungal detergents.
    6. Ensure normal air exchange in the kitchen and bathroom - clean the ventilation shafts regularly. If you don't have them, you can put bars at the bottom of the doors.

Fan in the bathroom

  1. In the bathroom, install a fan that operates independently of the lighting, as well as a powerful heated towel rail and heated floors (especially if the room has an adjacent wall with the staircase).
  2. Take care of high-quality waterproofing of pipes. Check the condition of the water supply regularly and repair leaks promptly.
  3. Leave enough space between furniture and the wall for ventilation.
  4. Seal seams and joints between tiles - places where mold likes to settle.
  5. Consult with a specialist regarding insulation of the apartment, optimal materials and technology. Due to the difference in temperatures outside and inside the house, a lot of moisture can accumulate on part of the wall.

Mold in an apartment can appear in a variety of ways. The last thing people expect is danger from indoor flowers. However, spores often germinate in pots. And some plants themselves promote the spread of fungi. For example, the well-known geranium, as well as African violets.
