An easy way to keep wet wipes from drying out, even if the packaging flap is broken

The wet wipes have dried out, although only a few days have passed since the date of purchase - sometimes this happens if you forgot to close the valve or the packaging became depressurized. But don't rush to throw them away. There is a simple way to “reanimate” them, after which they will become usable again. Well, don’t forget about the tricks that will prevent moisture evaporation!

How to moisten dried wipes?

The first thing that comes to mind for most people is to pour a few tablespoons of water into the packaging. And this is not the worst solution, since water is initially present in the composition, which means its addition will not cause dangerous chemical reactions. However, with the help of only H2O it will not be possible to restore the former properties of napkins, because other volatile substances evaporate from them: alcohols, fragrances, solvents, plant extracts, essential oils.

Napkin packaging

It is not so easy for an ordinary consumer to get all the components from this list and even more difficult to make the right “cocktail” for impregnation from them, so it is easier to use ready-made liquids, which most often are already at home. It could be:

  • Hand and body lotion. Depending on what ingredients are included in its composition, the wipes will be either moisturizing or cleansing.

  • Alcohol antiseptic. Using it, you can make antibacterial wipes, which will be especially relevant during the coronavirus epidemic and seasonal respiratory infections.
  • Makeup remover milk or micellar water. Since the need to wash off makeup arises not only at home, but also on the go - for example, while traveling on vacation, and carrying a bottle of liquid with you is not always convenient, such wipes will help you maintain healthy skin.
  • Baby oil. If you have dry hand skin, from time to time use wipes impregnated with moisturizing or nourishing baby oil. They will be a wonderful replacement for a tube of hand cream.
  • Furniture polish or liquid product for car interior care. These “wipers” are useful for keeping your home or car clean.

If you need universal wet wipes or don’t have any of the mentioned products on hand, try pouring into the package a mixture of two to three tablespoons of water (filtered or boiled), two to three drops of liquid soap and half a teaspoon of glycerin. Depending on the number of wipes, you may need a different amount of solution.

In extreme cases, you can use vodka or medical alcohol, as well as pharmaceutical tinctures containing alcohol. However, remember that such wipes should not be given to children, and in addition, it is not recommended to frequently wipe your hands and face with them, since alcohol is an aggressive substance and greatly dries out the skin.

How to prevent napkins from drying out?

It is not difficult to moisten dried wipes, but it is better to prevent the liquid from evaporating from the packaging. You can do this in several ways:

  • After use, close the valve tightly or ensure that the Velcro covers the entire perimeter of the opening without leaving any gaps.
  • Place the packaging with the flap (velcro) down. Steam always rushes upward, so in this position the liquid will evaporate much more slowly.
  • If the valve is broken, cover the hole with wide tape or electrical tape. The same method can solve the problem if the packaging is torn or coming apart at the seams.
  • Remove tissues from the package as quickly as possible and squeeze out any excess air before resealing the package.

Wet wipe

If you buy wipes in large packs, they will gradually lose moisture one way or another. To prevent this from happening, you should purchase a special container with a sealed lid and a convenient dispenser.

As you can see, there is no need to throw away dried wipes - it is much more profitable to give them a second life, saving money and getting a convenient product for maintaining hygiene, skin care, or tidying up your home and car.
