I used old leather gloves. Now they are wonderful au pairs

I bought new leather gloves last year and threw the old ones on the mezzanine. I felt that they would still be useful. And so it happened. It turns out you can make a lot of useful things out of old gloves.

My helpers during the harvesting season

In the summer I prepared a lot of preserves: cucumbers, tomatoes, compotes, squash caviar, various salads and sauces. The work was literally in full swing. It was impossible to breathe in the kitchen. And suddenly, in the midst of it, the potholder caught fire. Don't even ask how.

Old leather gloves

There was nothing to do, I began to take the cans with a towel. But it's very inconvenient. I was always worried that they would slip out. And then I remembered a picture from my childhood. Grandmother holds canning jars with grandfather's tanned mittens. Why don't I do the same with my old gloves? At first I was afraid of getting burned. It feels like you are picking up the cans with your bare hands.

But then I realized how convenient it is:

  1. The leather glove does not fall off the hand.
  2. Banks do not slip out.
  3. A leather potholder does not get wet, unlike a fabric one.
  4. Rolling up cans is much faster.

By the way, I had winter gloves, with a thin layer of insulation inside. But it was enough to not feel the heat.

I pick berries and pull weeds

I have a lot of thorny bushes growing in my dacha: gooseberries, blackberries, raspberries, barberries. Previously, as I was harvesting the harvest, I was looking for all my fingers. This despite the fact that she was wearing gloves. True, ordinary construction ones are made of fabric.

Weed removal

Last summer I tried old leather ones. I immediately noticed the advantages:

  • Firstly, leather gloves do not get dirty with berry juice. If you suddenly crush something, the material can be wiped with a damp cloth or washed. That's all.
  • Secondly, the thorns do not pierce thick skin. The hands are all intact.
  • And thirdly, picking berries is convenient.

I also pick up weeds in them, which also come across with thorns.

Where else can old gloves come in handy?

The old gloves turned out to be very comfortable. I adapted them for a couple of other things:

  • Unscrew the tight lid. If the twist cap does not want to unscrew, you need to put a glove on your hand. It is best to use rubber, but leather will also work. The lid will stop sliding and unscrew easily.
  • Dye your hair. The cellophane gloves that come with the paint are terribly uncomfortable. Firstly, they are simply huge, and secondly, they greatly reduce sensitivity. And my hands sweat a lot in them. Using leather gloves, applying paint comes out faster. Due to this, the color applies more evenly. By the way, after several paintings there were no stains left on the leather. The dye washed off with regular soap.

Crafts

The idea of making some kind of craft out of gloves popped up several times. It's still genuine leather. Clean it, paint it, and it will be as good as new.

I liked these options:

  • Flower made from pieces of leather:

  • You can paint it in your favorite color:

  • Another flower option:

  • The decoration can be attached to a handbag, made into an original elastic band, or worn as a brooch.

  • You can cut a patch for a hole (spot) from an old leather glove. If you give it an original shape, the patch will look like decor:

Toy in 15 minutes

Various crafts are made from old gloves. One popular option is a toy. It is sewn in a matter of minutes. You can get creative with your children, make a toy for kindergarten or school. I liked the master class on making a cat:

All you need is:

  1. Cut off the “middle finger” of the glove, turn it inside out and sew up the hole.
  2. Fill the workpiece with cotton wool or other filler.
  3. Sew up the hole at the top, and sew the cut “finger” on the back of the “palm”. This will be the cat's tail.
  4. Separate the head from the body with an elegant ribbon.
  5. Draw (glue, sew) eyes, nose, mouth on the cat. You can come up with an outfit for her, give her a felt heart in her paws.

It is not necessary to use a leather glove. You can take a regular fabric one. It seemed to me that it would be even better suited for a toy, because it stretches.

I advise you to think carefully before throwing your old gloves into the trash. Even if they are worn out, it's okay. A couple of helpers are always useful in the garden. They are convenient for sealing preserves. And if the farm is small, you can use gloves for creativity.
