Cabbage juice and nothing else - how to paint eggs an unusual blue color

Before Easter, stores are filled with egg dyes. I remember one year I bought a package of bright colors, so vibrant that not only the white, but also the yolk was colored. I had to throw everything away. Having learned from bitter experience, I decided to try to dye the eggs with something natural. The recommendations highlighted an unusual recipe with red cabbage. I just have half a head of cabbage left in the refrigerator.

We paint eggs an unusual blue color

The recipe is simple. There is only one ingredient.

Red cabbage and eggs

To color eggs for Easter you will need:

  • half a head of red cabbage (700 grams);
  • 7 hard-boiled eggs (less or more is possible)
  • juicer.

What I did:

  1. Squeeze juice from cabbage using a juicer. Cabbage juice in a blender
  2. I got a glass of juice with thick foam.
  3. I removed the foam with a spoon and transferred it to a saucer.
  4. Dropped 2 eggs directly into the glass. Pour red cabbage juice into glass with eggEgg in a glass of red cabbage juice

  6. I dipped the remaining 2 eggs in foam on a saucer and swirled them. Coloring eggs with red cabbage juice foamCabbage-colored egg
  7. I transferred everything to the refrigerator and left it overnight.

It was 8 pm. In the morning at 6 o'clock I went to check how everything was colored. Simply wonderful. The colors turned out extraordinary. The cake made the color marbled, and the foam left speckled patterns. Showed it to my family. They didn't believe that I only used cabbage juice. I didn’t even pour vinegar!

How to quickly make spectacular patterns?

They say that only red eggs should be prepared for Easter. It's too boring for me.I love all kinds of multi-colored, patterned, marble ones.

To make spectacular drawings, I often use two life hacks:

  • Drawings using butter and an ear stick. The butter should be soft. That is, you need to take it out of the refrigerator in advance and let it stand at room temperature for 2-3 hours. We put a little oil on a stick and draw stripes and waves on the egg. Or we put points. The dots can be grouped into flowers (one dot in the center and five around it). Dip the eggs into the dye solution. Where there are oil patterns, the shell will remain white.
  • Using an old toothbrush and hair dryer. You can paint speckled eggs in just a few minutes. It looks very unusual if you use several colors at once.
    1. Take a hard-boiled egg and place it on a bag. Dip a toothbrush into cabbage juice or other coloring liquid. Cabbage juice, toothbrush and egg
    2. We run our finger along the stubble. Bright splashes will fly onto the shell. Pattern on an egg using a toothbrush
    3. We dry them with a hairdryer and spray paint on the opposite side. drying a colored egg
    4. A couple of minutes, and the speckled egg lies ready in front of us. At least go to church right away!Egg dyed with red cabbage

I've seen eggs decorated with red cabbage before. But only with a decoction. This option seemed long and difficult to me. First, chop the cabbage, then boil it, strain the broth, add vinegar... It’s easier with juice. But the main thing is the incredible blue-violet color. Lavender, I think that’s what it’s called correctly. Artificial paints do not produce such colors.

Overall, the red cabbage met my expectations. I recommend the recipe. If something is unclear, ask questions in the comments. And if it’s clear, like it and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel.
