How to stay warm if it's cold at home: 7 best ways without cost
There are at least a dozen more pages on the calendar until the start of the heating season, and you are already freezing because there is dampness, rain and wind outside? There are several simple ways to stay warm in a cold apartment. You don't have to buy a heater or lie wrapped in an electric blanket all day - we've collected more rational and cheaper options.
Warming drinks
A cup of hot tea or coffee will keep you warm even in the coldest weather. After the first two or three sips you will notice how the warmth spreads throughout your body. To enhance the effect, you just need to add spices to the cup - for example, cinnamon or ginger. Their warming properties have long been known to people, and in addition, these plants help protect against flu and respiratory diseases.
Children can be offered hot milk or chamomile tea, using honey as a sweetener - it also has a warming effect on the body.
More spicy and hot
If you like hot and spicy dishes, do not skimp on spices - add more black and red pepper, cardamom, cloves, turmeric and ginger to your food; Serve “fiery” sauces. Thanks to this diet, your body will start working faster - your metabolism will speed up and energy production will increase. But don’t forget to add “fuel” to your “inner stove” in a timely manner - breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner should not be skipped, nor should you eat only vegetables. In cold weather, lean on proteins and carbohydrates.
Hot shower or foot bath
Do you feel that your arms and legs are numb from the cold, and your teeth involuntarily rattle the scale of A minor in three octaves? A hot shower will help you avoid freezing completely - just stand for 5-10 minutes under the running water, and then rub yourself vigorously with a towel.
Another option is to soak in the bath. However, in this case you will have to make sure that the water does not cool down too quickly.
Well, if this is not possible, at least take hot foot baths. Don't forget to add a few drops of essential oil or a spoonful of dry mustard to the water - this will warm you up faster and the effect will last longer.
Delicious pastries
Buns will help you warm up on a cold autumn day, and at the same time combine business with pleasure. Or bagels. Or cabbage pies. Or homemade bread. Here, choose according to your taste, the main thing is that the oven is involved in the preparation:
- While it is on, the air in the kitchen will have time to warm up - the temperature will rise by 5-6 degrees, or even more.
- After turning it off, you need to leave the oven door open - while the walls and heating element are cooling, they will give off all the “extra” heat into the air.
- By eating fresh, fragrant, warm pastries with hot tea, you will also warm up from the inside. Moreover, dough products contain a lot of carbohydrates, and the body needs them as a consumable material for energy production.
Wool socks
It’s not for nothing that our great-grandmothers advised keeping your feet warm - woolen socks will help you feel less cold. There is no magic in this, but from a scientific point of view this phenomenon is explained as follows: the warmer the legs, the faster the blood circulates throughout the body, and accordingly, the muscles do not have time to “cool down”.
Woolen items retain heat perfectly, working on the principle of a thermos. Be sure to put on these socks after a hot shower - and in the next few hours you will definitely not be afraid of the cold.
A little exercise and useful activities
Remember the fairy tale about the little match girl? This same girl sat motionless near the wall, curled up into a ball. So she tried to preserve the remaining warmth, but... she didn’t succeed. And you, too, will not be able to warm up if you just sit on the sofa - in order to avoid freezing, you need to move as much and as actively as possible.
During movements, the body produces additional energy, which will be spent on heating the body. That's why:
- Perform a small set of physical exercises every 60–90 minutes. It is not necessary to lift a barbell or run a cross-country course, it is enough to squat, swing your arms and do push-ups from the floor several times.
- Do some housework more often - dust, wash dishes, sweep, or at least put scattered things in their places. Even a little physical activity will keep you from freezing.
- Dance to your favorite music. If sports and household chores are alien to you, this is a great opportunity to get moving.
Warm bed before bed
When you go into a cold bed, you use your body's energy to warm up your pillows, sheets, and blankets. This doesn't make them hot, but your legs and arms become noticeably cold.
To stay warm, you just need to warm up your bed and pajamas before going to bed using a regular heating pad or hair dryer.
Of course, you can’t rely on just one option - you need to combine the different methods described above, and then you will feel comfortable, despite the cold in the apartment.
