What is not for sale: making a Valentine's card for February 14th with your own hands

As you know, you can get almost anything for money. But there are things that are still useless to include on the shopping list - sincere love or, for example, skillful hands. If a tender feeling is present, but you have a little doubt about your own talents, this is not a reason to leave your loved one without a special gift. We will tell you and show you how to make valentines for February 14th with your own hands.

No intricate designs or strange materials - just paper, a stationery knife and glue! In one evening, you will create a piece that he or she will most likely keep until old age.

Volumetric card with a heart

Postcard “Concrete”

This option will be appreciated by those who do not like transparent hints.

Everything is done extremely simply. The only tools you need are scissors, the materials are two sheets of thick paper (red and white) and glue.

So, without further ado, let's get started:

  1. Decide on the size of the postcard. You can simply fold the A4 sheet in half, or you can make the present more compact. It is believed that everything cute and tender is associated with the “mini” size, and it looks more neat.
  2. Folded sheet of construction paper

  3. Fold a sheet of red paper in half too and mark the outline of half a heart near the fold. It should be about half the height of the postcard itself.
  4. Markings for cutting out a heart on a sheet of paper

  5. Cut out the heart.
  6. Paper heart

  7. Prepare a support on which the heart will rest. To do this, cut a strip of approximately 8 x 2 cm from thick white paper and fold it in half lengthwise. Cut one end of the strip at 45 degrees. Then cut each tip along the fold line by about 8–10 mm. Fold the free edges parallel to the cut line (on one edge the “tails” will be at a right angle, on the other at 45 degrees).
  8. Paper heart support

  9. Glue a heart to the side of the support that is bent at 45 degrees - it should fold so that the support is between the halves.
  10. Heart on a paper leg

  11. Glue the other end of the support to the card right on the fold. Thanks to this design, the card will fold and unfold together with the heart and support.

Method of attaching a heart to a postcard

Almost done! All that remains is to sign the postcard to your liking. The front side can be decorated with an inscription or appliqué, or you can leave it crystal white - after all, the most important thing is always inside.

Valentine's card "Pixel"

The paper should be thick enough, the stationery knife should be sharp, the intentions should be decisive!

The card is made from two sheets of paper of different colors. Traditionally, red and white are chosen.

Valentine Pixel

In addition to the basic materials, you will need a pencil, a squared piece of notebook paper, and something that can temporarily hold two sheets together (for example, masking tape or paper clips).

Let's get started:

  1. On a checkered piece of paper, draw a blank according to the following diagram:
  2. Scheme for cutting out a volumetric heart

  3. Decide on the size of the future card by folding two sheets of paper of the same size.
  4. White and red sheets of paper of the same size

  5. Temporarily attach the workpiece to one of the sheets (make sure that the dotted line coincides with the fold line of the sheet). It is important that the checkered sheet does not move even a millimeter.
  6. Stencil for cutting out a heart on a postcard

  7. Now, armed with a stationery knife, cut both sheets strictly along the lines marked on the checkered blank. It is better to use a ruler to ensure that the cuts are perfectly straight.
  8. Cuts on the card for a voluminous heart

  9. After removing the top sheet, carefully fold the card, adjusting the heart details with your fingers if necessary.
  10. Valentine Pixel

  11. Glue the piece of paper with the heart into a “cover” that matches in size. But this is not necessary - if the paper is thick enough, you can leave the Valentine card single-layer.
  12. Sign the card as you see fit. Continuing the pixel theme, you can cut 5 x 5 mm squares and make an inscription out of them - LOVE, “I LOVE” or something like that.

As you can see, it's not difficult at all. We chose these two postcard options for three reasons:

  • they are original;
  • they can easily be done in one evening;
  • Both postcards are voluminous, but at the same time they are convenient to store - in the folded version nothing will get wrinkled or come off.

If you are ready for something more complicated, you can try making a Valentine card using the origami technique. We have selected videos that show in detail how to make a heart with charming wings, with a secret message, and with devilish horns. You can even make a deliberately gloomy Valentine - such a surprise will be appreciated by fans of Tim Burton films and classic horror films.
